The Sony Playstation 3 (commonly abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment and followed the Sony PS2 in the Playstation series. The Playstation 3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generatioin of video game consoles.
A major distinguishable feature of the PS3 is its online gaming services, the Playstation Network. Other features include robust multimedia capabilities, connectivity with the Sony PSP, and its use of high-definition optical format, Blu-Ray Disc, as its primary storage medium. It was originally available in 2 different hard drive sizes - the 20GB and the 60GB. Since then, several revisions to the system's design have been made.
